Photograph of the Holocaust Memorial in the Rumbula forest, Riga, Latvia. The Commission co-sponsored and raised the funds for this memorial to more than 25,000 Jews murdered by the Nazis and local collaborators during two days in November and December of 1941. Latvia’s President Vaira Vike-Freiberga said at the dedication ceremony on November 29, 2002: 'It is a sad and black day in the history of Latvia, one about which we wish to tell our people and our children.'
