The Commission has funded a large outdoor model of the Nazis’ infamous Mittelbau-Dora Labor Camp. It has been placed at the entrance to the new memorial museum that built by the German government on the campsite.
Commission Member, The Honorable Amy S. Epstein and her husband, Bruce, provided the funds that were used for the model.
Mittelbau-Dora inmates were forced to labor under intolerable conditions to construct V-2 rockets in tunnels in a mountain near the camp in Nordhausen, Germany. The death toll was so high that a special crematorium was built at the camp to dispose of the bodies.
The new museum and documentation center were dedicated in April 2005, at the 60th anniversary of the camp’s liberation by the 3rd U.S. Army.
